School News

Dear Parents,

A belated welcome to the new school year, especially to those who have joined us for the first time. All the pupils have settled in well and are working diligently.

Arrangements regarding the prevention of the spread of Swine Flu are working well and we compliment you and the children on taking on board these precautions. We ask you to continue with good hand washing practices at home and to remind your children of the importance of the HSE Programme "Catch it, Bin it, Kill it"

As you know we try to support various charities during the school year and we will try to organise these so there will be approximately 3 to 5 events per year. This week we collected bags of old clothes for Umbra and the Friends of St. Luke's Hospital. The school will receive a small financial reward for this. We hope to support the following charities this year - Samaritans Purse, Temple Street Children's Hospital - Irish Heart Foundation - Concern /Goal. Generally we ask children to contribute €2 each to these events (€5 per family of 3 or more).

We would like to remind you that all children require their names to be clearly marked on their school jumpers, shirts, coats, hats and shoes/football boots, lunchboxes/ bottles to prevent them being mislaid or mixed up with others. Some days it takes up a large amount of class time to find owners of various articles of clothing. Despite constant reminders they are often left outside on the grass or benches outside. Could you please remind your children of the need to take care of their own belongings.

Food Dudes
In early September our school was invited to take part in the Food Dudes programme which is organised by Bord Bia and the Department of Food & Agriculture.
Over the next few weeks starting on 1st October fresh fruit and vegetables will be delivered to the school free of charge for the children to taste and eat. The aim of this programme is to promote the eating of fresh fruit and vegetables by school children. Each day for 3 weeks they will have the opportunity to sample fruit such as apple, banana, mandarin etc and vegetables such as carrots, peppers, cucumber etc.
