History of our School
The earliest record of a national school in St. Ciaran's Parish is that of Clonfanlough which opened on the first of January 1843. At one time in the parish there were 4 national schools - Clonfanlough, Clonlyon, Clonmacnois and Shannonbridge. In 1974 Clonfanlough and Clonlyon were closed. The children were brought to Clonmacnois. This meant another classroom was built. In 1995 a staff room, resource room and 2 classrooms were built. In 2002 the numbers attending Clonmacnois increased and Clonmacnois became a 4 teacher school. A new classroom was needed. It was built under the D.E.S. Devolved scheme. The number of pupils attending Shannonbridge N.S. decreased. It closed in July 2007. The children now go to Clonmacnois.
